Fleeing Pheasant is the county seat of Pawpahtawp County. 

Pawpahtawp is an old Sioux Indian word, which when translated into English means, "lets stop here before things get worse."

Fleeing Pheasant was founded in 1921 by a collection of German immigrants who were looking for a part of the country that completely disregarded the prohibition laws of the day.

The Official motto of Fleeing Pheasant is "Fleeing Pheasant; where hunters and their guns go to get loaded"
